See if you can spot the poor decision making.

  4. Totally thought that was just a funky paint scheme, and I had no idea what the dangerous thing was. I guess don't trust me to check for snow?

The runway surface was clean so braking action would be good on the landing, IF we make it back to the runway. Most likely in the field of the end of the runway...

  6. Got me wondering what I would do as a passenger on that flight... run screaming down the aisles to let me off? Good god...

  7. Not the brightest thing to do as a flight crew. Luckily it all blew off. Perhaps very dry snow with little water content. However, contamination is contamination and this should have been removed. Maybe the airport ran out of type-1.

  8. This video is the cause of much vitriol and discourse over on PPRUNE, of which I don't understand the controversy.

There are people who actually defended the pilot's decision to depart with the contaminated wings. Both the video and the supporting PPRUNE posts are hard for me to believe.

Supposedly, It was an Aeroflot flight, whose pilots didn't want to wait in line for de-icing and made the decision to just go. The take off roll seems long to me and the wing does not appear to be completely clean, yet they made it.

Add Aeroflot to the list of airlines on which I will not fly.

    Thanks for the post.

  9. OMFG. Maybe the pilots drank all the vodka, and they had none left with which to de-ice the wings?

  11. What WOULD you do as a passenger? I'd be terrified, I think.

And, re: PPRUNE-- there are guys on there who will defend a Captain's right to do just about anything, I've found. Fake an emergency so you can get priority handling at a busy airport? No problem. Take off a full A320 with an inch of snow? Hardly worth mentioning, really.
