Bahamas again!

I tell you, when my alarm clock went off at 3:30am this morning for our early morning departure, I couldn't decide whether to barf or wet my pants. I think I may have done a little of both, it was all a blur. Fortunately I always keep a can of Red Bull nearby and I eventually managed to drink it, then have a quick shower and stumble to the airport for our departure.

We were airborne for over an hour before the sun came up, and I think I got some pretty cool pics of the sunrise. The weather enroute was fine; I took some cool footage of our landing as well as a few more pics, but (again) I forgot the little cable that connects the camera to the PC, so I'll have to wait until I return to Toronto to upload them.

We checked into the Hilton and bumped into some other corporate pilots, then ended up having a great breakfast with them - it turns out one of them flew medevacs out of Thunder Bay at the same time I did, and in fact knew some of the people I flew with when I worked for Thunder.

I noticed something when we ate breakfast. The guys from the other company were on per diems, so when they got the breakfast menu they read it by checking out the right hand column to see what the cheapest thing was, then moved over to the left to read the description and find out what they would be eating. When we looked at the menu, we looked at the description first. It's a noticable difference. Then again, we don't take home any extra cash afer a long trip like the other pilots do, but I think I like it better this way, especially now that I have learned to control my initial 'gorge myself like a squirrel before winter' reaction.

That's about it for now, I'm going to go for a quick dip in the ocean, then lay in the sun and start to think about supper - there's an area about 10 minutes walk from here called the fish fry, and I'm thinking it will figure largely in my evening plans. It's where the locals go out to eat, and consists of about 20 small restaurants all side-by-side. We went there a few months ago for some amazing grilled snapper, but I'm thinking today is more of a broiled shrimp and grilled plantain day. I know, I know, I have a rough life so I'll shut up now :)

As soon as I get back to Toronto I am going on vacation, and while I travel across the country, I'm going to see a fellow blogging pilot for coffee in between flights. More on that shortly, but I'm pretty interested to see how my blogging life and my real life intersect. I'll be sure to post a transcript of the coffee session.

    At least they're not eating out of sardine tins in their rooms, like some people on per diems I have met.

    ah, indeed, but nothing beats using the coffee pot in your hotel room to heat water for your ramen noodles and using the iron to fry eggs
