Also while you're being vectored on a long downwind, you can "see" the hole in the final approach line where ATC is about to turn you back in...

If your system shows trailing traffic you also see when it would be a good idea to clear the runway quickly after touchdown!!!Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10357752193201032059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6837202.post-78449858725098922852009-06-18T20:17:52.303-04:002009-06-18T20:17:52.303-04:00I'm actually slightly surprised that you don&#...I'm actually slightly surprised that you don't need 8.33 KHz radios, enhanced Mode S transponders and other equally expensive gadgets as well... All of the above are required in Europe above FL195 and I have a feeling that floor will be getting lower and lower.

Still an unpleasant surprise when money is precious I guess.

S.Splendorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11010620882390615773noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6837202.post-80834772674679604222009-06-17T03:20:21.267-04:002009-06-17T03:20:21.267-04:00Just for the record: That TCAS related crash you a...Just for the record: That TCAS related crash you are talking about (and providing a link for) was over German territory (or more correctly, near the border between Germany and Switzerland), not somewhere in Russia. ;-)

Regards

Marko.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6837202.post-71886340058294507772009-06-16T13:53:32.487-04:002009-06-16T13:53:32.487-04:00I'm actually surprised that you haven't ha...I'm actually surprised that you haven't had any kind of TCAS all this time.

Also, why does the "obey the rules corresponding to your country of registration, unless the host country has more restrictive rules" principle allow you to operate in the US without the TC-mandated equipment?Aviatrixhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13634111275860140084noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6837202.post-4401549674865091412009-06-16T06:52:31.125-04:002009-06-16T06:52:31.125-04:00Yet another desk jockey at TC who figured out how ...Yet another desk jockey at TC who figured out how to make Canadian operators spend 100's of thousands! Its hard to believe they want charter operators in the sky at all. TCAS-I vs. ACAS (such as the Avidyne 6xx TAS machines) devices. The capabilities are about the same (aural warnings, 20nm range, MFD interconnection, active transponder interrogation), but the costs are smaller.

But as for the value of traffic sensing, maybe you won't love it, but since I fly down low a lot, I consider that $20K one of my best investments in the plane.Frank Ch.
